Gonda: The Uttar Pradesh State Local Rural Bodies Dedicated Backward Classes Commission held a meeting at the District Panchayat Auditorium in Gonda on Thursday to discuss reservation for backward classes in local rural bodies, their socio-economic conditions and the effective implementation of government welfare schemes.
The meeting was chaired by Commission Chairman Justice Ram Autar Singh. Members Brijesh Kumar, Santosh Kumar Vishwakarma, Dr Arvind Kumar Chaureasia and S.P. Singh were also present.
Commission members reviewed the progress of various government schemes with officials from different departments and directed them to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive the benefits of welfare programmes in a transparent and impartial manner.
Senior administrative officials, including the Chief Development Officer, along with public representatives, gram pradhans, block panchayat chiefs, district panchayat members and representatives of social and political organisations participated in the meeting.
The Commission held direct discussions with elected representatives and citizens regarding reservation for backward classes in local bodies and invited their suggestions. It also collected information related to the population of backward classes, their social and economic status, land ownership, number of landless families, sources of livelihood, participation in government services and political representation in local bodies.
Representatives from different areas shared suggestions based on local circumstances, which were recorded by the Commission for further consideration.
The meeting also discussed measures for the social and economic uplift of backward classes, increasing public awareness and making the reservation system more effective, transparent and equitable according to local conditions.
Justice Ram Autar Singh said the Commission’s objective was to undertake a factual assessment of the actual social, economic and educational status of backward classes across the state and submit practical and equitable recommendations to the government regarding reservation in local bodies.
He said the suggestions and data collected from Gonda would be examined in detail before the Commission’s recommendations are forwarded to the state government.
The meeting concluded in a peaceful and positive atmosphere. The Commission thanked all participants and emphasised that meaningful public participation is essential for protecting the interests of all sections of society and ensuring inclusive development.
