London: Violence has been taking place in Britain for the past several days. Immigrants are being targeted. Meanwhile, thousands of anti-racism protesters have taken to the streets in many cities and towns of Britain.
According to the report of news agency Xinhua, more than 100 demonstrations of right-wing groups were to be held till 11 pm on Wednesday night. Their plan failed because the police took strict action to maintain order. After this, a large number of anti-racism protesters poured onto the streets of cities and towns like London, Bristol, Brighton, Birmingham, Liverpool, Hastings and Walthamstow.
The anti-racism protesters held placards in their hands on which it was written, ‘End fascism and racism’, ‘Refugees are welcome. Stop the right wing’ and ‘Love, not hate’. A very small number of right-wing protesters came to Brighton, but a huge anti-racism crowd reached there in large numbers in comparison to them.
This is a matter of relief for Britain. The country has been rocked for days by right-wing protests targeting Muslims and the immigrant population in general, which have left police officers injured, shops looted and refugee hotels attacked.
The violence was fuelled by misinformation on the internet claiming that the suspect in the killing of three children in Southport, northwest England, in late July was a Muslim immigrant. The suspect, 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, has been charged with murder. More than 100 rioters have been charged following the riots and their cases have been dealt with swiftly through the court process. Three people were jailed on Wednesday, one of whom was sentenced to three years in prison.
