Animal Husbandry Minister Inspects Cow Shelter Sites in BKT, Kishunpur, and Usrana

Focus on Cow Welfare, Protection from Cold, and Self-Reliance of Shelters

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister,  Dharmpal Singh, conducted an on-site inspection of temporary cow shelters in Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT), Kishunpur, and Usrana. The inspection revealed 178 cows housed in the Kishunpur shelter and 212 in the Usrana shelter. The Minister reviewed the arrangements for fodder, medical care, security, and general upkeep at the shelters.

Key Directives from the Minister:

  1. Adequate Feeding: Emphasized the need for proper quantities of green fodder and animal feed, especially for undernourished cows.
  2. Protection from Cold: Directed the installation of tarpaulins and provision of fresh water to safeguard the animals during winter.
  3. Infrastructure Improvements: Instructed the construction of an additional tin shed under MNREGA and freeing of encroached Gauchar land.
  4. Health and Hygiene: Highlighted the importance of consistent health checks and access to essential medical treatments.

Promoting Self-Reliance through Cow Products

Singh stressed the need for cow shelters to become self-reliant by utilizing cow-produced goods. This initiative aims to ensure the shelters’ sustainability while promoting natural farming practices and creating self-employment opportunities for locals.

Interaction and Satisfaction

The Minister personally fed bananas, gram, and jaggery to the cows and expressed satisfaction with the existing arrangements. He urged continuous efforts to improve shelter management, ensuring uninterrupted availability of fodder, water, and security.

State Government’s Vision

The Uttar Pradesh government envisions cow shelters not only as centers for protection but also as hubs for economic activity. The focus is on natural farming and self-reliant shelters, aligning with broader goals of rural development and cow welfare.

Officials Present

The inspection was attended by senior officials, including the Chief Veterinary Officer, Lucknow Veterinary Officer, and Village Development Officer, who assured the Minister of continued efforts to enhance cow welfare measures.
