Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University organised a large-scale tree plantation drive on its campus on Thursday to mark the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri under the Service Sankalp Abhiyan.
The programme was organised by the university’s National Service Scheme (NSS) unit under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Professor Anil Kumar Rai, Registrar Mahendra Kumar Singh and Finance Officer Mahima Chand. The plantation drive was conducted in front of the primary health centre on the university campus, where fruit-bearing trees, including mango and guava, were planted to promote environmental conservation.

Registrar Mahendra Kumar Singh emphasised that tree plantation was essential for human life and said environmental protection was crucial for a healthy and secure future. He encouraged NSS volunteers to conduct public awareness campaigns to motivate people to plant more trees.
Programme Officer Dr Pawan Kumar Singh, who led the initiative, highlighted the vital role of greenery in sustaining human life and maintaining environmental balance. He stressed that extensive plantation was necessary to address rising atmospheric temperatures and called upon everyone to take responsibility for protecting nature.

Several faculty members, including Professor S.K. Pandey, Professor Jyoti Pandey, Professor J.N. Maurya, Dr Rajiv Yadav, Dr Ajit Singh, Dr Sandeep Kumar and Dr Amit Verma, along with university staff, attended the programme.
NSS volunteers, including Shashank, Ujjwal and Pallavi, actively participated in the drive and pledged to extend the plantation initiative to the wider community.
