Lucknow: A five-day capacity building programme aimed at strengthening the implementation of vocational education at the middle stage of school education has commenced at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow.
Organised jointly by BBAU, Pandit Sundarlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), NCERT and the Ministry of Education, Government of India, under PAC 21.14, the programme is being held from September 7 to 11, 2026.
The initiative focuses on enhancing teachers’ capacity to implement vocational and skill education in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023. It also aims to provide students with experiential, skill-based and work-oriented learning opportunities. Around 100 teachers and skill trainers from all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh are participating in the programme.
Programme Inaugurated with Traditional Ceremony
Vishnu Kant Pandey, Additional State Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, attended the inaugural session as chief guest. Yogesh Kumar, Deputy General Manager, HCL Foundation, was present as the guest of honour.
Also attending the programme were Professor Naveen Kumar Arora, Chairman, Institution Innovation Council, BBAU; Professor Deepak Paliwal, Joint Director, PSSCIVE, NCERT; programme coordinator Professor Shailja Dixit; and Dr Arpit Shailesh.
The inaugural ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, Saraswati Vandana, the university anthem and the national song Vande Mataram.
Focus on Strengthening Skill-Based Education
Addressing the gathering, Vishnu Kant Pandey highlighted the importance of strengthening vocational education and equipping students with relevant and useful skills in line with NCF-SE 2023.
Yogesh Kumar stressed the need for effective collaboration among stakeholders to promote skill-based education. Professor Naveen Arora underlined the crucial role of teacher capacity building in ensuring the successful implementation of vocational education.
Professor Deepak Paliwal, Joint Director, PSSCIVE, NCERT, emphasised the role of teachers in translating the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and NCF-SE 2023 into meaningful and experiential learning processes.
The programme is designed to support teachers and skill trainers in adopting effective approaches to vocational education and creating stronger opportunities for practical learning at the middle school level.
