Lucknow: The Sushant Golf City police station team has arrested a repeat offender wanted for stealing motorcycles, recovering two stolen bikes from his possession, officials said.

Acting on directions from Lucknow Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba and Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime & Headquarters) Aparna Kumar as part of the ongoing crackdown on crime and criminals, a police team was formed under the leadership of Sushant Golf City Station House Officer Rajeev Ranjan Upadhyay, working under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Mohammad Mushtaq, Additional DCP (South) Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gosainganj, Rishabh Yadav. The team successfully tracked down and arrested the accused.
Case Background
On August 13, 2026, a video went viral on social media showing an unidentified man stealing a motorcycle. Based on the footage, Sub-Inspector Himanchal Singh registered a case (FIR No. 544/2026) under Sections 303(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Sushant Golf City police station.
Using the viral video as a starting point, police formed a dedicated team to identify and trace the suspect. Combining technical evidence, manual verification, and local intelligence networks, the team arrested the accused — identified as Awadhesh alias Bauwa — on August 17. Two stolen motorcycles were recovered from his possession. He has since been produced before the court following due legal process.
What the Accused Told Police
During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed, saying he was addicted to drugs and stole to fund his habit. He said that whenever he ran out of money, he would look for opportunities to steal motorcycles and other valuables from markets and crowded areas, later selling the stolen items for cash. He admitted to stealing one motorcycle from Plaza Mall and another from Khurdahi Bazaar, and said he was in the process of trying to sell them when police caught up with him. He asked for forgiveness, saying he had made a mistake.

Awadhesh alias Bauwa, son of the late Sukhlal, a resident of Meesa village under Gosainganj police station, Lucknow, aged around 33.
Criminal History
The accused has a long criminal record with at least 11 prior cases registered against him at Alambagh, Gosainganj, and Sushant Golf City police stations between 2017 and 2024, including charges under theft-related sections of the IPC/BNS, the Gangster Act, and the NDPS Act (relating to narcotics).
