Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma and Panchayat’s Jeetendra Kumar Connect with Students
Lucknow: Amity University Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow campus turned into a hub of excitement this week as the cast of the much-anticipated Mirzapur film dropped by for a promotional visit. Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, and Jitendra Kumar — who students instantly recognized as “Sachiv Ji” from Panchayat — spent the afternoon chatting with students, swapping stories from their careers, and soaking in the campus energy.
Prof. (Dr.) Anil Vashisht, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the campus, welcomed the trio and sent them off with good wishes for the film’s release.
The actors didn’t hold back on the warmth. All three said there’s something genuinely special about spending time with young people, and it showed — they fielded questions from the crowd, posed for selfies, and signed autographs for students who clearly weren’t going to let the opportunity slip by. Students also put on cultural performances to welcome the artists, giving the whole event an extra festive touch.
Divyendu Sharma spoke about what it means to bring Mirzapur — already a beloved web series with a massive fan base — to the big screen. He called it a bold, fairly unusual move: taking characters and a story audiences already love and reimagining them for theatres. He said he’s hopeful the film version will win over fans just as much as the show did.
Ali Fazal, true to form, kept it simple and direct with the students: “Dekhna, bahut maza aayega.” The line landed exactly as you’d expect — the room erupted in applause and cheers, and the energy in that moment was hard to miss.
Jitendra Kumar, whose portrayal of Sachiv Ji has made him something of a household name, talked less about the film and more about life — his own journey in the industry, what it’s really like working in entertainment, and what he’d tell young people chasing their own dreams. His advice was simple: stay serious about your goals, and keep showing up for the work you care about.
For the students, the visit was more than just a film promotion — it was a rare chance to sit across from people they’d only seen on screen, hear their stories firsthand, and get a glimpse into what a career in entertainment actually looks like. Between the conversations, the selfies, and the cultural performances, it turned into one of those days students will be talking about for a while.
