Bareilly: Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU) has begun preparations to host two prestigious Association of Indian Universities (AIU) North Zone Inter-University tournaments at the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Sports Complex.
The university has been entrusted with hosting the Men’s Table Tennis and Women’s Basketball North Zone competitions, a responsibility being seen as a significant achievement for the institution and its sporting infrastructure.
Among the five state universities in Uttar Pradesh selected to host different North Zone competitions, MJPRU has been given the responsibility of organising these two major tournaments. The opportunity reflects the university’s sports facilities, organisational capabilities and credibility in conducting large-scale competitions under AIU guidelines.
The Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Sports Complex has previously hosted major sporting events successfully. In particular, the university organised AIU Men’s and Women’s Grappling competitions in accordance with established sporting rules, maintaining transparency and fairness throughout the events. The successful conduct of those tournaments demonstrated the university’s ability to efficiently manage large inter-university sporting events.
Building on this experience, preparations for the upcoming Table Tennis and Women’s Basketball tournaments have now begun in full swing. Committees have started working on various aspects of the events, including the quality of playing facilities and equipment, technical arrangements, accommodation and food for participating teams, transportation, medical support, security, reception and other logistical requirements.
Transparency and Fairness Top Priority
Professor S.S. Bedi, Secretary of the University’s Sports Council, said being entrusted by AIU with two prestigious North Zone tournaments was a matter of pride and reflected the confidence placed in the university.
He said both competitions would be conducted with complete transparency, fairness and strict adherence to AIU rules and regulations. The university would strive to ensure that every player and team arriving from universities across the country receives excellent sporting facilities, well-organised arrangements and warm hospitality.
Prof. Bedi said the experience gained from successfully hosting the Grappling competitions would be utilised to further improve arrangements for the upcoming Table Tennis and Basketball tournaments.
“Sports are not merely about competition; they are also a means of developing discipline, team spirit and a pursuit of excellence,” he said, adding that the university was continuously working to provide athletes with a better sporting environment.
He noted that the selection of five state universities in Uttar Pradesh to host various North Zone competitions reflected the growing commitment towards sports in the state’s higher education institutions. Being entrusted with two such tournaments was a particularly significant achievement for MJPRU, he added.
Prof. Bedi said the entire Sports Council team was committed to ensuring the successful conduct of both events and preparations at the Sports Complex were progressing with enthusiasm and full dedication. He expressed confidence that the tournaments would add another significant chapter to the university’s sporting legacy.
The university administration has set a clear objective of conducting both competitions with transparency, fairness, discipline and sportsmanship. Particular emphasis is being placed on ensuring equal opportunities for all participating players and universities while strictly following AIU standards and regulations.
Under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor and with the support of the university administration, the Sports Council has initiated comprehensive preparations. Attention is being given to every aspect of the events, from welcoming participating athletes to ensuring smooth and efficient conduct of the competitions.
The university aims to make the two upcoming North Zone tournaments a benchmark for professional sports management, transparent organisation, fair competition and hospitality.
