Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed senior IPS officer Rajeev Krishna as the state’s permanent Director General of Police (DGP), bringing an end to a four-year period during which the state was led by acting police chiefs. The official appointment order was issued by the state government.
Rajeev Krishna had been serving as the acting DGP following the retirement of former DGP Prashant Kumar. Before assuming the top police post, he held key assignments as Director General of Vigilance and also served in senior positions within the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.
With more than three decades of service, Rajeev Krishna is regarded as an experienced and result-oriented police officer. He recently met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath following the announcement of his appointment.
Notably, Uttar Pradesh had not had a full-time DGP since May 2022, when former DGP Mukul Goel was removed from the post. Since then, the state police force has been headed by a series of acting DGPs, including D. S. Chauhan, R. K. Vishwakarma, Vijay Kumar, Prashant Kumar and Rajeev Krishna.

A native of Noida, Rajeev Krishna holds a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. He began his policing career as a trainee IPS officer in Prayagraj and went on to serve as SP and SSP in several districts across the state.
His tenure as Senior Superintendent of Police in Agra earned particular recognition for effective action against organized crime and kidnapping gangs. Over the years, he has also built a reputation for administrative efficiency and institutional reforms through his work in the police headquarters, vigilance department and recruitment board.
The appointment is expected to provide stability to the state’s police leadership at a time when Uttar Pradesh continues to focus on modernization, law-and-order management and police reforms.
