Lucknow: Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh visited displaced families from Akbarnagar currently residing in Basant Kunj and accused the Uttar Pradesh government of subjecting poor residents to injustice in the name of development.
Addressing a public gathering at the LDA Colony on IIM Road, Sanjay Singh alleged that nearly 1,800 families displaced from Akbarnagar were shifted to Basant Kunj without adequate rehabilitation, employment opportunities, education, or healthcare facilities.
He claimed that while the government had promised to provide equivalent land and proper compensation to those displaced, the assurances were not fulfilled. According to him, families were accommodated in small 250 square feet housing units and burdened with monthly instalments of ₹4,200 despite facing severe livelihood challenges.
“People whose established homes and livelihoods were destroyed have not been provided any means of employment at the new location. Imposing monthly instalments on economically struggling families is inhuman,” Singh said.
The AAP leader demanded that the state government either waive the instalments imposed on displaced families or provide substantial relief. He also called for proper compensation, access to clean drinking water, affordable electricity, educational facilities, and healthcare services for the residents.
Sanjay Singh further stated that the party would raise the issue “from the streets to Parliament” and, if necessary, pursue the matter in court. He said he would also write to Yogi Adityanath seeking immediate intervention for the rehabilitation of the affected families.

Criticising what he described as “bulldozer politics,” Singh alleged that the government was promoting fear and division in society. Referring to demolition drives in different parts of the state, he said that development projects should not come at the cost of displacing vulnerable communities without proper rehabilitation.
He also raised concerns over the lack of government schools and hospitals in the Basant Kunj area, claiming that many children’s education had been disrupted and families were being forced to depend on expensive private institutions and healthcare facilities.
“The problems faced by displaced families show that education, healthcare, and employment are not among the priorities of the BJP government,” Singh alleged, adding that the Aam Aadmi Party would continue to raise public issues related to basic amenities and social justice.
Several party leaders and local residents attended the public meeting, including Vinay Patel, Dinesh Patel, Mahendra Singh, Noor Siddiqui, Iram Rizvi, Manoj Mishra, Prakhar Srivastava, Aneet Rawat, and Prerna, among others.
