Discipline makes sure I show up every day; madness makes sure I don’t become predictable: Manish Raisinghani

Mumbai: Actor Manish Raisinghani, who has been a part of shows like Kaahin Kissii Roz, Kahiin to Hoga, Kkehna Hai Kuch Mujhko, Teen Bahuraniyaan, Sasural Simar Ka, and Ek Shringaar–Swabhiman, agrees that the pressure after success is greater than the struggle before it. He stressed that after success, the pressure shifts to expectations.

He said, “Before success, the pressure is survival. After success, the pressure is expectation, and expectation is a much heavier emotion, isn’t it?” (he winks). “Because survival is instinctive and doesn’t give you a chance to operate with a baggage of emotions. Earlier, people hoped you’d do well. Now, they assume you will. And those assumptions are dangerous; they don’t leave room for failure, only judgment.”

“So yes, the pressure definitely grows, but so should your ability to smile through it. So should your ability to make yourself flow in gratitude towards your next job,” he added.
On a personal level, to balance the drive to achieve more with the need to stay consistent, he treats consistency as his discipline. He added, “And ambition is my madness. Discipline makes sure I show up every day; madness makes sure I don’t become predictable. It’s a bit like 3 Idiots meeting Dhurandhar—one keeps you grounded, the other keeps you dangerous. Haunsla, Eddhan, Badla (he winks). And somewhere between the two, you stay relevant.”

With his experience in the industry, Manish has had moments where staying consistent felt more challenging than reaching a milestone. He said, “Milestones are moments; consistency is a lifestyle. There are phases where you’ve already proved yourself, and yet you have to wake up and prove it again quietly, consistently, without applause. Because what they see is the performance, not the practice.”
“That’s the real test, because success celebrates you once, but consistency demands you every single day,” he added.

For him, success means both one big breakthrough performance and consistent performances over time. “A breakthrough introduces you; consistency defines you. Any actor can have their DDLJ moment, but not everyone can sustain it across decades like Shah Rukh Khan. Long-term success is not about one hit; it’s about showing up every moment and staying present with the same hunger and a slightly wiser heart. Because in the end, people forget over a period of time how loudly you arrived; they remember how long and how beautifully you stayed relevant,” Manish concluded.
