Lucknow: Sunil Singh, National President of the Lok Dal, has articulated the party’s clear stance on women’s reservation, asserting that true empowerment can only be achieved when women receive representation proportional to their population.
Highlighting that women constitute nearly half of the country’s population, Singh stated that limiting reservation to 33 percent is inadequate and does not reflect the principle of equitable participation. He emphasised that Lok Dal strongly advocates for 50 percent reservation for women, describing it as a necessary step toward ensuring genuine equality.
Addressing the broader issue of women’s empowerment, Singh said that it cannot be achieved through symbolic announcements or limited policy provisions. Instead, he stressed the need to provide equal opportunities to women across political, social, and economic spheres. According to him, meaningful empowerment requires systemic changes that enable women to actively participate in governance and decision-making processes.
He further underscored the importance of periodically reviewing the reservation framework to ensure that it aligns with changing demographic realities. Such reviews, he noted, would help maintain fairness and ensure that all sections of society receive just representation.

Singh also pointed out that short-term welfare schemes alone are insufficient to uplift women. He called for sustained efforts in the areas of education, employment, and leadership development, which he described as the foundation of long-term empowerment. Ensuring women’s active involvement in decision-making at all levels, he added, is crucial for driving real social transformation.
The party has urged the central government to implement women’s reservation in a more comprehensive and effective manner, so that it goes beyond being a political promise and becomes a catalyst for lasting societal change.
