Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh): A thought-provoking seminar and book launch were organized on the eve of the 199th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University. The event took place in the committee hall of the Central Library under the guidance of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research Chair.
The programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.P. Singh, who highlighted the immense contributions of Mahatma Phule towards social reform and nation-building. Emphasizing his role in uplifting marginalized sections, Prof. Singh noted that Phule championed the rights of workers, farmers, and women at a time when democratic values were yet to take root in India.
On the occasion, a book titled “Mahatma Jyotiba Phule: A Great Nation Builder”, authored by Dr. Suresh Kumar and Dr. Kamini Vishwakarma, was formally released by the Vice-Chancellor along with Registrar Harish Chandra. The book sheds light on Phule’s visionary ideas and enduring legacy.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Suresh Kumar, Coordinator of the Research Chair, described Mahatma Phule as a pioneer of social justice and a strong voice for the oppressed. He underlined Phule’s efforts in laying the foundation of democracy and equality in India, particularly through the establishment of the Satyashodhak Samaj, which aimed to awaken socially deprived communities.
Speakers also recalled Phule’s advocacy for widow remarriage, women’s education, and social equality, stressing that his reforms continue to benefit society today. His contributions were described as deeply rooted in the welfare of humanity.

The event was efficiently conducted by Harimohan Verma, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Kamini Vishwakarma.
Several faculty members, scholars, and students attended the programme, including Prof. Sudhir Verma, Dr. Prempal Singh, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Dr. Subhash Chandra, Dr. Vineeta Jain (Deputy Librarian), Dr. Ruchi Dwivedi, Tapan Verma, and Sudhanshu Sharma, along with library staff and a large number of students.
The seminar served as a meaningful tribute to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule’s legacy, inspiring participants to carry forward his vision of equality, education, and social justice.
