Gonda: In view of the upcoming Holi festival and increased passenger movement, the Transport Department in Gonda has issued strict safety directives to all bus owners and operators across the district.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) R.C. Bhartiya informed that it is now mandatory for all buses to be equipped with fire safety equipment. He warned that in the event of any untoward incident, including fire or accident, a First Information Report (FIR) will be registered directly against both the bus owner and the driver.
Mandatory Fire Safety Measures
All AC and non-AC buses must carry two 10-kg fire extinguishers — one placed at the front and one at the rear of the vehicle. Operators have been instructed to ensure the proper installation and maintenance of these fire extinguishers.
The ARTO emphasized that passenger safety is the primary responsibility of both bus owners and drivers. In case of any accident involving a bus registered in the district, accountability will be fixed and strict legal action, including FIR registration, will be initiated against those responsible.
Strict Action Against Drunk Driving
Drivers have been strictly instructed not to operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol. If any driver is found driving after consuming alcohol, both the driver and the vehicle owner will face legal consequences. Authorities have made it clear that there will be zero tolerance for drunk driving.
Additionally, long-distance AC buses must deploy two drivers to prevent fatigue-related accidents. No driver will be allowed to operate a vehicle while in a state of drowsiness or exhaustion.

Overcharging Will Lead to Suspension
The Transport Department has also warned bus operators against charging passengers extra fares during the festive rush. If any driver or operator is found demanding or collecting excess fare, strict action will be taken. The driver’s licence (DL) and the vehicle’s registration may both be suspended.
Responsibility During Festive Rush
With Holi approaching, all bus owners operating services for passenger movement have been instructed to closely monitor their vehicles at all times. Owners must ensure that drivers and conductors remain alert and follow safety protocols strictly.
The administration has appealed to all operators to maintain discipline and prioritise passenger safety to avoid fire incidents and road accidents during the festive season.
Extending festive greetings, officials wished all passengers a safe and happy Holi.
