Lucknow: Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya is organising a five-day Kathak Master Class under the Chair established in memory of Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. Held at the Kala Mandapam Auditorium from February 10 to 14, 2026, the programme was conducted under the guidance of renowned Kathak guru Pandit Asim Bandhu Bhattacharya.
The master class focused on varied aspects including the special training of Basant Bhav, capturing the aesthetic and emotional essence of the spring season. Pandit Bhattacharya provided in-depth guidance on the technical aspects of Kathak, including aamad, tukras and intricate chakkars under shuddh nritya. Through interactive sessions, he explained subtle nuances of technique, expression and aesthetics, enriching the dancers’ practical and academic understanding.

The session began in the presence of senior guru Pandit Ram Mohan Maharaj, programme coordinator and Head of the Dance Department Gyanendra Dutt Bajpai, along with faculty members. The master class aimed to familiarise students and researchers with the rich Kathak tradition and inspire excellence rooted in cultural values.
