Lucknow Police Roll Out Exclusive CUG Numbers to Strengthen Women’s Safety Across the City

Lucknow | In a major step towards enhancing women’s safety and ensuring quicker access to police assistance, the Lucknow Commissionerate Police have introduced exclusive CUG (Closed User Group) mobile numbers for women at all police stations across the city. The initiative enables women to register complaints round the clock without the need to physically visit a police station.

Under the new system, Mission Shakti centres functioning at every police station have been allotted dedicated mobile numbers. Through these numbers, women can directly connect with trained police personnel, ensuring swift action and support. Police authorities have assured that the identity and address of complainants will be kept strictly confidential to encourage reporting without fear or hesitation.

53 Police Stations, 53 Dedicated Numbers

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Bablu Kumar said that 53 CUG numbers—one for each police station under the Lucknow Police Commissionerate—have been made operational on a 24×7 basis.

“Every complaint received through these numbers will be taken seriously. Depending on the nature and urgency of the matter, immediate police action will be initiated,” he said.

The initiative is aimed at reducing response time and enabling direct communication between women and responsible officers, eliminating procedural delays.

Range of Complaints Covered

Women can use the dedicated CUG numbers to report various issues, including sexual harassment, molestation, domestic violence, stalking, threats, cybercrime, online blackmail, workplace harassment, and any situation involving fear, coercion, or insecurity.

Police officials said that once a complaint is received, preliminary verification will begin immediately. Where required, women police personnel will be deployed to provide assistance and ensure the complainant’s safety.

Integrated Emergency Response

To further strengthen the response mechanism, Mission Shakti centres have been integrated with the 1090 Women’s Helpline and the 112 emergency service. This ensures that complaints received through any platform are routed through a unified system for faster action.

“Whether a woman reaches out through 1090, 112, the UP Cop App, or the local police station’s CUG number, her complaint will reach us without delay,” JCP Bablu Kumar added.

Encouraging Digital Reporting

The Lucknow Police have also promoted the use of the UP Cop App, which allows women to file complaints online, share live location details, and track the status of their complaints in real time. Officials believe the integration of digital tools with dedicated helplines will make police assistance more accessible and effective.

Building Trust and Increasing Reporting

Senior officials said the initiative is expected to improve reporting of crimes that often go unreported due to social pressure, fear, or lack of immediate access to help.

“This system of direct communication will help build trust and bring hidden cases of harassment and abuse to light,” an officer said.

The move is being widely viewed as a significant administrative reform aimed at delivering quick, confidential, and reliable police support, reinforcing Lucknow’s commitment to women’s safety at the grassroots level.
