Lucknow | The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed former Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Prashant Kumar as the new Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), with the aim of strengthening and ensuring greater transparency in the state’s education service recruitment process.
Dr Prashant Kumar, a 1990-batch IPS officer, recently retired from the post of DGP. Considering his extensive administrative experience and proven leadership, the state government has entrusted him with this key responsibility.

During his distinguished career in the Uttar Pradesh Police, Dr Kumar served in several important positions and demonstrated exceptional administrative competence. He played a significant role in maintaining and improving law and order in the state, notably during his tenure as Additional Director General (Law & Order) and as Acting DGP. His administrative and governance experience has been widely acknowledged.

With Dr Prashant Kumar taking charge as Chairman of the Education Service Selection Commission, expectations are high that the teacher recruitment process will gain fresh momentum and witness enhanced transparency and efficiency. His appointment is expected to ensure fairness in recruitment examinations while expediting the overall selection process.
The government believes that Dr Kumar’s leadership will help restore confidence in the recruitment system and contribute to the timely and impartial appointment of qualified teachers, thereby strengthening the education sector in Uttar Pradesh.
