UP Police Conducts Crackdown on Illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi Settlements in Lucknow

Lucknow | In a significant operation targeting illegal immigrants, the Uttar Pradesh Police conducted a crackdown on unauthorized settlements in the Dalibag area of Lucknow, uncovering several surprising developments. The operation focused on residents of Rohingya and Bangladeshi origin who were reportedly living in makeshift huts without legal authorization.

During the raids, police found that many of the inhabitants, who claimed to be uneducated laborers, had access to unexpected amenities. Officers discovered electricity connections, ceiling fans, bulbs, charging points, and well-maintained living spaces resembling a VIP camp rather than typical temporary settlements. Several huts also contained Urdu books, raising questions about the residents’ educational and cultural activities.

Authorities examined the residents’ documents, including Aadhaar cards and NRC (National Register of Citizens) documents. Shockingly, most of the Aadhaar cards were issued from Barpeta district in Assam. Police are coordinating with Assam authorities to verify the authenticity of these identity documents and determine whether they were legitimately issued or fraudulently created.

The investigation is now focusing on understanding the network behind these settlements—how the residents were settled, who facilitated the documents, and the activities they are involved in within the city. The operation is ongoing as police intensify scrutiny to ensure public safety and legal compliance.

Officials stressed that such measures are part of broader efforts to identify and monitor illegal immigrants and maintain law and order in urban areas.
