Unseeded UP Players Shine with Upset Wins, Enter Quarterfinals of AITA U-18 Super Series Tennis Tournament

Lucknow – Uttar Pradesh’s young tennis stars delivered outstanding performances at the AITA Super Series Under-18 Boys and Girls Tennis Tournament, producing major upsets and securing multiple spots in the quarterfinals.

In a sensational result, unseeded Anuj Kumar (UP) stunned fourth seed Aryaman Chavan (UP) with a commanding 6-3, 6-4 victory, showcasing clinical serves and precise shot-making. He was joined in the last eight by other top UP players including 5th seed Anuruddh Kumar, 6th seed Raghav Prabhu, 3rd seed Rishi Yadav, and 8th seed Sanidhya D. Dwivedi, making it a dominant day for the host state.

In the girls’ singles category, UP’s Miraya Agarwal stormed into the quarterfinals after defeating Anusha Singh (UP) 6-0, 6-0. Another headline-grabbing result came from UP’s Aashi Shamseri, who produced a thrilling upset over 2nd seed Maanvi Rathi (Delhi) 6-4, 0-6, 6-2.

The tournament is being organized under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Tennis Association (UPTA) and hosted by the Sports Development Society (SDS) at the La Martiniere Lawn Tennis Facility, Lucknow, with Shalimar Group as the title sponsor.

In other boys’ pre-quarterfinal matches:

  • Anuruddh Kumar (5th seed, UP) defeated Harsh Singh (UP) 6-3, 3-6, 7-5
  • Raghav Prabhu (6th seed, UP) beat Shaurya Birajdar (Maharashtra) 6-1, 6-3
  • Rishi Yadav (3rd seed, UP) overcame Kanishk Tomar (Delhi) 6-1, 6-3
  • Sanidhya D. Dwivedi (8th seed, UP) defeated Vanshraj Jalota 6-1, 6-2

Top seed Harsh Malik (Haryana) and Yaj Malik (Haryana) also advanced with comfortable wins.

With multiple UP players in both boys’ and girls’ quarterfinals, the home state has emerged as a strong title contender in the tournament.
