Lucknow: In a significant breakthrough, the Lucknow Police have solved the murder of a woman and arrested her 20-year-old son, Nikhil Yadav, also known as Golu, who was addicted to online gaming and gambling. The operation was carried out jointly by PGI Police Station, the Surveillance Cell of the Southern Zone, and the Crime Team of the Lucknow Police Commissionerate.
During the arrest, the police recovered several valuables and the murder weapon from the accused, including:
- 1 gold chain
- 1 mangalsutra
- 1 set of tops
- 1 pair of earrings
- 1 single earring
- 1 screwdriver (used in the murder)
The accused was apprehended from Gram Aurma, Alli Pur Bahera, Sultanpur Ghosh, Fatehpur district and brought to the PGI Police Station for questioning. Based on preliminary evidence, Nikhil was formally arrested under FIR No. 501/2025, Sections 103(1), 238/315 BNS.
Incident Details:
On October 3, 2025, Ramesh Yadav, father of the accused, reported that his wife Renu Yadav had returned home from her parental house when Nikhil called him claiming that something had happened to her. Upon reaching home, Ramesh found his wife had been seriously injured and was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared dead. The house was in disarray, and valuables were missing, prompting an immediate FIR registration at PGI Police Station.
Investigation and Arrest:
Police teams examined CCTV footage, manual and technical evidence, and traced Nikhil to Fatehpur. He was arrested from the location mentioned above.
Confession of the Accused:
During interrogation, Nikhil admitted that he was addicted to online gambling, particularly the Aviator game on the Tirangagamee.games platform. He confessed to taking multiple high-interest loans via apps like MPOKKET (₹25,000), FLASH WALLET (₹2,600), and RAM Fincorp (₹2,000), which he was unable to repay. He revealed that to cover his debts, he attempted to steal jewelry from his mother. When she caught him in the act, he attacked her repeatedly with a screwdriver and then with a gas cylinder, resulting in her death.
Nikhil further admitted that he called his father, a friend, and his maternal uncle to fabricate a story that intruders had attacked his mother. He tried to escape with the stolen jewelry and murder weapon, but was apprehended by the police.
