Varanasi: A police officer in Varanasi has highlighted the humane side of the uniform by donating blood to a 79-year-old woman in need. Sub-Inspector Umesh Kumar Gupta, posted at Chaubepur police station, responded after learning that Dulari Devi urgently required blood of his blood group.
Dulari Devi, originally from Saiyadraja in Chandauli, has been undergoing treatment for nearly three months. Her granddaughter Neha Singh was searching for a blood donor when she contacted social worker Rajesh Kumar Gupta, who then approached Umesh Kumar Gupta.
As the required blood group matched his own, Umesh agreed to donate. He first completed his duty at the police station, which ended around 9 pm, and then rode his motorcycle nearly 25 kilometres to BHU. After donating blood, he travelled back, covering roughly 50 kilometres in total.
The gesture brought relief to Dulari Devi’s family and underscored the importance of voluntary blood donation, while presenting a compassionate side of policing and public service.
