Gonda: Members of the Samajwadi Party’s youth and student wings objected to what they described as repeated installation of objectionable and controversial posters carrying references to party national president Akhilesh Yadav at three locations in Gonda.
According to the party workers, such posters were found near Chaupal Sagar, YSPM and Balpur bridge on September 21. They alleged that similar posters had been put up at the locations on earlier occasions as well, and described Monday’s incident as the third such occurrence.
The development led to resentment among members of the Mulayam Singh Yadav Youth Brigade, Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha and Chhatra Sabha. Party workers subsequently removed and tore down the posters.
Following the incident, Devendra Pratap Yadav (Dipu Pradhan), district president of the Mulayam Singh Youth Brigade, along with other party workers, submitted a written complaint to the Inspector in-charge of Kotwali Nagar police station.
In their complaint, the workers urged the police to investigate the repeated installation of the allegedly objectionable posters, identify those responsible and register a case before taking appropriate legal action. The delegation said the police assured them that the matter would be investigated and necessary action would follow.
Those accompanying the delegation included Meraj Ahmed, state secretary of the Youth Brigade; Javed Akhtar Mantu, district spokesperson; Afzal Khan, district president of the Minority Cell; Siddharth Singh Monu, district president of the Chhatra Sabha; Sanjay Sahu, district president of the Backward Classes Cell; Lal Chand Gautam, state secretary of the Lohia Vahini; Alok Yadav, Assembly president of the Youth Brigade; Rahul Shukla, block president of the Youth Brigade; and Monu Yadav, among others.
Police action and the findings of the investigation are awaited. The identities and motives of those allegedly responsible for putting up the posters had not been established at the time of the complaint.
