Chief Minister Inaugurates Regency Hospital in Gorakhpur

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the newly constructed Regency Hospital in Gorakhpur , calling it a major milestone in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there has been a comprehensive transformation in the country’s and state’s healthcare facilities.

The state-of-the-art 260-bedded Multi Super Specialty Hospital is equipped with modern healthcare infrastructure, including cardiology, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, a cath lab, and an 80-bedded ICU, all under one roof. The modern modular operation theatres have been designed with minimal risk of infection. The CM said this advanced facility will serve as a major healthcare hub for over 50 million people of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, adjoining Bihar, and even Nepal.

During his address, the Chief Minister praised Mr. Tanmay Modi for establishing this facility with complete dedication and emphasized that Regency Hospital, which began its journey in Kanpur, has become the backbone of healthcare in that city. The hospital also played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic. With its expansion to Gorakhpur and other districts, world-class medical care that once required patients to travel to Delhi or Mumbai will now be available locally.

Highlighting the transformation of healthcare in Eastern UP, the CM said that a decade ago the situation was dire, but today, with the establishment of AIIMS in Gorakhpur alongside the one in Raebareli, BRD Medical College, and several new hospitals, the region is witnessing a new era of medical advancement. Medical colleges have also been established in Basti, Siddharthnagar, Kushinagar, Deoria, and Maharajganj. Soon, Ballia will also get a new medical college. Similarly, new medical colleges are either under construction or set to begin soon in Azamgarh, Ambedkarnagar, Balrampur, Gonda, Bahraich, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Chandauli, Sonbhadra, and Mirzapur.

He also noted the significant progress in cancer treatment facilities, with super specialty oncology services now available at BHU, Varanasi, in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and Tata Cancer Hospital.

On healthcare accessibility, the CM highlighted that earlier, expensive medical facilities were beyond the reach of the poor. Today, under Ayushman Bharat Yojana, 5.5 crore people in Uttar Pradesh are receiving free treatment coverage of up to ₹5 lakh. The state government’s Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana and special assistance funds further ensure that no needy patient is left without treatment. The CM Relief Fund alone disbursed ₹1,100 crore last year to assist the underprivileged.

Adityanath also stressed the need for new healthcare models. Recalling past efforts in Gorakhpur, he praised doctors like Dr. Awadhesh Agarwal, who introduced ICU, dialysis, and blood separation units in the region decades ago. He emphasized the need to now scale up services with advanced facilities such as angioplasty, bypass surgery, and organ transplants, including lungs, liver, and kidney.

The event was also addressed by MP Ravi Kishan Shukla, while several public representatives, senior doctors, and dignitaries were present.
