Special Feature on the 100th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Ram Bux Singh

Delhi, 14 August 2025: Dr. Ram Bux Singh was born on 13 August 1925 in the Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh. This proud land became the foundation of his early life, education, and scientific inspiration. His life remained deeply connected with Lucknow, where he had been residing for the last 50 years. Through his research and technological innovations, he brought a revolution in the field of renewable energy. On 18 September 2016, Dr. Singh breathed his last in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. On this historic occasion, we request the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to celebrate this year at the national level.

Today, a grand ceremony was held at Dr. Ram Bux Singh Girls Inter College, Sitapur on the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of the world-renowned scientist, a pioneer of bioenergy, and the pride of Sitapur, Dr. Ram Bux Singh. On this occasion, a statue of Dr. Singh was unveiled in the college premises, establishing a permanent monument to pass on his invaluable legacy to future generations.

The chief guests included family members of Hon’ble MP Shri Anand Bhadauria Ji, as the Parliament is currently in session and the Hon’ble MP is in Delhi for it. On behalf of the Hon’ble MP, his brother Shri Abhishek Bhadauria Ji presented his message at the gathering. In his message, the Hon’ble MP said that Dr. Ram Bux Singh’s contribution is a source of inspiration not only for India but for the entire world. He also mentioned that last year he had written to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji recommending Dr. Singh for the Bharat Ratna award and assured that support for this cause will continue.

This year, the Government of India has approved the issuance of a special commemorative postage stamp in his memory on his 100th birth anniversary, a decision taken by the Postal Stamp Advisory Committee. This was made possible through the efforts of Hon’ble MP Shri Anand Bhadauria Ji, who forwarded the request of Rajendra Singh (son of Dr. Ram Bux Singh) to Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia Ji, Ministry of Communications, Government of India. This is a proud moment for the entire nation. It is requested that this approved commemorative stamp be released by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji himself, so that Dr. Singh’s priceless contributions receive nationwide recognition and respect.
Dr. Ram Bux Singh had dreamt of promoting clean and renewable energy during his lifetime. His visionary thinking continues to inspire policymakers, scientists, farmers, and the global community even today.

Dr. Singh’s contributions were not limited to India—he designed, developed, and installed over 1,000 biogas systems in more than 15 countries, including the USA, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Mexico, several Central and South American countries, Iran, Nepal, and many other Asian nations. His research was praised by Hon’ble Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi Ji during the International Biogas Workshop (held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi from 28 July – 2 August 1975) and by Hon’ble Governor Shri V. V. Giri Ji, along with several heads of state, chief ministers, senators, MPs, and scientists.

Major Achievements of Dr. Ram Bux Singh:
✅ Established India’s first unique cow dung-based biogas plant in 1957, marking the beginning of the renewable energy revolution.
✅ Set up the first Indian biogas plant in the USA in June 1972, giving global recognition to Indian innovation.
✅ Served as an advisor to the United Nations and was acknowledged in the US Senate Report for his work.
✅ Served for two decades as the Officer-in-Charge of Asia’s first Gobargas Research Centre (Ajitmal, District Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh).
✅ Biogas Advisor to the US Department of Agriculture.
✅ On 26 September 2023, his historic works were acquired by the National Archives of India.
✅ Recognized by ISKCON Ministry of Cow Protection & Agriculture and the International Society for Cow Protection.
✅ Featured on Sitapur district’s official website (https://sitapur.nic.in/famous-personalities/) as a famous personality.
✅ Recognized by the United Nations as a global scientist.
✅ Conferred honorary degrees of Master of Applied Science and Doctor of Technological Philosophy by Pacific Western University, California, USA.
✅ Authored seven books on alternative energy, approved by the US Library of Congress and several governments. One of his books is regarded as the “Bible of Biogas.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Rajendra Singh (son of Dr. Ram Bux Singh) said:
“We request Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji to honour Dr. Ram Bux Singh Ji with the Bharat Ratna, as his contribution is invaluable not only to India but to the entire world. His work in the field of sustainable energy gave a new dimension to global rural development and played a crucial role in shaping international renewable energy policy. His contributions undoubtedly meet the highest standards of excellence and merit the nation’s highest civilian honour. In this regard, Hon’ble MP Shri Anand Bhadauria Ji and Hon’ble Minister of State Shri Rakesh Rathore Guru Ji (Government of Uttar Pradesh) have already requested the Hon’ble Prime Minister.”
Furthermore, Late Shri Ashutosh Tandon Ji, former MLA of Lucknow, had written to Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh Ji regarding this. Similarly, Rajendra Singh personally requested Hon’ble Defence Minister and Lucknow MP Shri Rajnath Singh Ji through Shri Neeraj Singh Ji at his Lucknow office. Present MLA of Lucknow Shri O. P. Srivastava Ji has also played a vital role in advancing this demand.
He further stated:
“We also request that 13 August be declared as National Biogas Day. Just as the International Yoga Day has become a symbol of India’s soft power and global leadership, we hope that this national recognition for a great Indian scientist will be declared under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister.”
He also appealed to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji:
“We request your support to ensure that the legacy of Dr. Ram Bux Singh Ji receives the recognition and honour it truly deserves. We urge you to recommend to the Government of India that he be considered for the Bharat Ratna.”

Finally, Rajendra Singh concluded:
“With the Parliament in session and the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly session about to begin, we urge all Hon’ble MPs and MLAs of Uttar Pradesh to raise this important matter in their respective Houses, so that the Government of Uttar Pradesh formally requests the Government of India to confer the Bharat Ratna on Dr. Ram Bux Singh Ji. This matter has been pending for 50 years, and now is the time for him to receive the recognition he genuinely deserves.”
