NEW DELHI – In the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings released recently, Indian star batsman Rohit Sharma has climbed to the second position, surpassing Pakistan’s Babar Azam. The move sees Rohit climb one spot, while Babar has dropped to third following a series of low scores in the recently concluded ODI series against the West Indies.
Despite not having played any competitive cricket since the 2025 IPL season, the 38-year-old Rohit Sharma now holds 756 rating points, placing him just behind his Test captain, Shubman Gill. Gill, with 784 points, has successfully maintained his position at the top of the batting charts. Former captain Virat Kohli sits in fourth place with 736 points. Both Rohit and Kohli had earlier announced their retirement from the Test format ahead of India’s tour of England, but have expressed their desire to continue playing in the 50-over game.
The two veteran batsmen could make their return to the field in a three-match ODI series against Australia in October and have already begun training to get back in form. As one of the all-time greats of the format, Rohit’s career-best ranking points came during the 2019 World Cup, where he scored a record-breaking five centuries and earned 882 points.

Rohit and Kohli were last seen in ODI action during India’s successful Champions Trophy campaign in the UAE earlier this year. India currently has five batsmen ranked in the top 15 of the men’s ODI rankings, with Shreyas Iyer at eighth and KL Rahul at 15th, showcasing the depth of their batting talent.
