UP Government Launches ‘Gau Seva Se Samriddhi’ Scheme to Boost Rural Economy

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has launched an ambitious new initiative called “Gau Seva Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity Through Cow Service) to transform the state’s rural economy. This comprehensive scheme aims to leverage cow-based products, or Panchgavya, along with modern technology to create new jobs, promote sustainable farming, and boost the income of local communities.

The initiative is designed to turn traditional cow shelters (gaushalas) into centers of production and innovation. The government has set a target for 75 selected gaushalas across the state to achieve an annual self-sustaining income of Rs 25 lakh each.

Innovating with Cow-Based Products

The “Gau Seva Se Samriddhi” scheme goes beyond traditional cow protection by incorporating innovative new projects. The government is focused on creating a wide range of products from Panchgavya, which includes cow milk, urine, dung, ghee, and curd. These products will include:

  • Skincare and beauty products: Utilizing Panchgavya in cosmetics.
  • Organic pesticides and fertilizers: Promoting natural farming methods.
  • Biogas and biofuels: Creating renewable energy sources for vehicles and households.
  • These projects will be rolled out initially in eight districts: Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Chitrakoot, Kanpur, Agra, Bareilly, and Jhansi.

Key Projects Across the State

Each of the eight districts will host a unique, innovation-based project:

  • Gorakhpur: A dual-feed biogas plant will be established.
  • Agra: A skincare unit based on Panchgavya will be set up.
  • Ayodhya: A unit for manufacturing organic pesticides will be created.
  • Bareilly: A bio-fencing and solar shed project will be implemented.
  • Chitrakoot: A fodder bank will be established for the Bundelkhand region.
  • Kanpur: An “Urban Cow Adoption” model will be introduced.
  • Varanasi: The “Ganga Basin Carbon Offset” project will be launched.
  • Jhansi: A mixed biogas research center using cactus will be developed.

The ‘Gram-Urja’ Model

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s “Gram-Urja” (Village Energy) model is a core component of this scheme. It aims to transform every village into a center for energy production. Biogas plants will be set up in villages to produce fuel for vehicles, which will help reduce the consumption of LPG and contribute to environmental protection.

This initiative is also prioritizing the participation of women’s self-help groups and young entrepreneurs to ensure that the economic benefits reach all sections of the community.

Shyam Bihari Gupta, Chairman of the Gau Seva Samiti, stated that these cow-based projects are not just a matter of tradition but a foundation for a self-reliant India. He believes that these initiatives will bring new economic energy to villages, providing more income at a lower cost for farmers and rural residents.

With this new scheme, the UP government is charting a path for the future by connecting cow welfare with economic development, innovation, and environmental balance. The ultimate goal is to make Uttar Pradesh a stronger, more self-reliant state.
