Uttar Pradesh Launches “Buffer Mein Safar” Scheme to Boost Eco-Tourism

Lucknow — Under the visionary guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh Forest and Wildlife Department is making concerted efforts to develop the state as a leading hub for eco-tourism. As part of this initiative, the department is rolling out the new “Buffer Mein Safar” (Journey in the Buffer) scheme aimed at promoting eco-tourism by opening new safari routes in the buffer zones of the state’s tiger reserves.

New Safari Routes in Sohagibarwa, North Kheri, and Pilibhit

Following the CM’s vision, the Forest Department is introducing fresh safari trails in the buffer zones of prominent tiger reserves such as Dudhwa, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, and North Kheri. Specifically, new routes in Sohagibarwa, North Kheri, and Pilibhit buffer areas have been selected for development, enabling tourists to enjoy safari experiences even during the monsoon season.

The initiative also plans to extend the operational days of these tiger reserves to attract more visitors. A major goal of the “Buffer Mein Safar” scheme is to minimize human-wildlife conflicts while offering visitors an exhilarating forest adventure.

Expanding Eco-Tourism in Bhira and Mohammadi

Beyond tiger reserves, the Forest Department is exploring new eco-tourism prospects in areas like Bhira and Mohammadi in Lakhimpur Kheri district. Tourist circuits are being developed in southern Kheri’s Gola, Mohammadi range, and Bhira to enhance visitor engagement.

One of the highlights is the inclusion of the Semrai Lake, famous for migratory birds, as part of the tourist circuit to boost eco-tourism attractions. Additionally, jungle safaris have recently commenced in the buffer zone near Kartenia Ghat, close to the Nepal border.

These regions, rich in natural beauty, biodiversity, and wildlife, are set to become major draws for eco-tourists from across the country and beyond.

Building Uttar Pradesh as an Eco-Tourism Hub

In line with the state government’s vision, the Forest and Wildlife Department has established a modern information center at the Dudhwa tourism complex, providing visitors with insights into local biodiversity, wildlife, and cultural heritage, while raising awareness about environmental conservation.

The department is also actively engaging local communities by training them as nature guides, canteen staff, and cooks. This training not only enhances their skills but also ensures high-quality services for tourists and generates new employment opportunities for local youth.

With these sustained efforts, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a prominent eco-tourism destination on the national and international map, blending conservation with sustainable development and community participation.
