Yogi Government to Gift ‘Sindoor Daani’ in Mass Wedding Scheme for the First Time

Major decision follows success of “Operation Sindoor”

Lucknow – In a significant move following the success of Operation Sindoor, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has announced that a ‘Sindoor Daani’ (vermilion container) will now be gifted to brides as part of the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivaah Yojana (Chief Minister’s Mass Wedding Scheme).

The UP government has long supported the marriage of girls from economically weaker sections by organizing community weddings across the state. As part of this welfare initiative, each couple is given assistance worth ₹1 lakh, which earlier stood at ₹51,000.

Expanded Benefits under the Scheme:

As per the revised plan:

  • ₹60,000 will now be directly transferred to the bride’s bank account (earlier ₹35,000).

  • ₹25,000 will be used for gifts and marriage essentials (earlier ₹10,000).

  • ₹15,000 will be allocated for organizing the ceremony, food, and logistics (earlier ₹6,000).

In terms of wedding gifts:

  • Hindu brides will receive: an embroidered saree, chunari, daily wear saree, and a complete bridal trousseau.

  • Hindu grooms will receive: a party kurta-pajama set, turban, and garland.

  • Muslim brides will receive: an embroidered suit set, chunari, and dress material.

  • Muslim grooms will be given: a kurta-pajama and essential attire.

In addition, all brides will be gifted:

  • Silver jewelry such as anklets (payal) and toe rings (bichhua),

  • Kitchen items including a pressure cooker, utensils like jug/lota, plates, glasses, bowls, spoons,

  • A wooden box, and a make-up kit.

Sindoor Daani to Be Included for the First Time

For the first time, the state government will include a Sindoor Daani in the bridal gift package, symbolizing the cultural and emotional significance of vermilion in Hindu marriages.

Today, in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, nearly 1,200 couples tied the knot in a mass wedding event held in Gorakhpur.

This expanded scheme reinforces the government’s commitment to supporting underprivileged families and preserving cultural traditions while promoting dignity and equality in marriage ceremonies.
