Yogi Adityanath Pushes Zero Tolerance on Road Violations

Lucknow, India — Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued a stern warning against traffic violations in Uttar Pradesh, directing authorities to take strict action against repeat offenders and unsafe driving practices. Chairing a high-level road safety review meeting on Wednesday, the Chief Minister emphasized that reckless driving, overspeeding, drunk driving, and illegal vehicle operations would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Expressing concern over recent road accidents reported from districts including Lakhimpur Kheri, Amroha, Agra, and Aligarh, Yogi Adityanath said that every life lost in a road accident is a major loss for society and the state. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts among departments, district administrations, and citizens to reduce road fatalities across Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister directed officials to identify accident-prone “black spots” on highways and major roads and prepare time-bound action plans to address the causes behind frequent accidents. He also ordered accountability at every administrative level, from top officials to field staff, and called for regular fortnightly reviews of road safety measures at the state level.

In one of the strongest directives issued during the meeting, Yogi Adityanath instructed authorities to take the “strictest possible action” against vehicles repeatedly challaned for traffic violations. Officials were asked to consider suspension or cancellation of licenses and permits for habitual offenders.

The Chief Minister also directed transport, police, and district authorities to hold regular coordination meetings to ensure stricter enforcement of traffic rules. Illegal vehicles and unauthorized parking stands are to be removed immediately, while roadside parking on busy routes will be prohibited except at designated locations.

Highlighting public transport safety, he instructed the transport department to ensure that only fully fit buses operate on roads and that regular health check-ups of drivers and conductors are conducted. Special attention was also given to school transport safety, with directions issued for mandatory fitness certification of all school vehicles.

To strengthen awareness, the government plans to intensify public campaigns promoting road safety norms such as helmet use, seat belts, and responsible driving. Public address systems at toll plazas, intersections, and busy roads will be used to regularly educate commuters about traffic regulations.

The Chief Minister further ordered regular patrolling on highways and expressways and asked officials to ensure adequate ambulance services and emergency medical arrangements near accident-prone corridors for timely treatment of injured persons.

Officials informed the meeting that between January and April 2026, road accidents in the state declined by 21 percent, while fatalities dropped by 22 percent. Traffic police also revealed that advanced enforcement equipment, including four-wheeler interceptors, two-wheeler interceptors, and speed laser guns, is being deployed across districts under the Road Safety Fund.

Authorities stated that Uttar Pradesh has implemented the “Zero Fatality District” initiative across all 75 districts, with special corridor teams formed at 487 critical police stations to improve emergency response and accident prevention efforts.
