State Recognised as a National Leader in Solar and Renewable Energy Development
Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has achieved another significant milestone in the field of renewable energy, earning national recognition for its outstanding performance in implementing the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The state has been selected for the prestigious PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, at the national event titled “Two Years of PM Surya Ghar: Expanding Solar Energy to One Crore Rooftops” held in New Delhi.
Expressing his satisfaction over the achievement, Uttar Pradesh Energy and Urban Development Minister A.K. Sharma said the award reflects the state’s sustained efforts under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He noted that Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of the country’s leading models for renewable energy development and is making rapid progress toward energy self-reliance.
According to the minister, the state has received more than 9.91 lakh applications under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, leading to the installation of over 5.57 lakh rooftop solar systems. These installations have benefited more than 5.64 lakh households and contributed to the development of over 1,888 megawatts of rooftop solar capacity across the state.
To support beneficiaries, more than ₹3,602 crore in central government subsidies and over ₹1,200 crore in additional state subsidies have been disbursed so far, making solar adoption more affordable for households.
One of Uttar Pradesh’s most notable achievements has been the development of the country’s first PM Surya Ghar Stakeholders Monitoring State Dashboard, enabling real-time monitoring and transparent implementation of the scheme. The state currently records nearly 2,000 rooftop solar installations every day and works with more than 6,000 registered vendors, placing it among the national leaders in solar energy deployment.
The minister highlighted that Lucknow has become the first district in India to cross the landmark of one lakh rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, setting a new benchmark for solar adoption in the country.

The rapid expansion of the solar sector has also generated significant economic benefits. Sharma stated that the solar energy market in Uttar Pradesh has grown to an estimated ₹36–40 crore per day, creating more than 70,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Beyond residential installations, the state has also expanded solar infrastructure across public and commercial sectors. Rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 247 MW have been installed on 9,200 government buildings, while projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission have added nearly 900 MW of solar capacity. Additionally, 691 commercial and industrial establishments have installed solar systems with a total capacity of 220 MW.
Uttar Pradesh has also established itself as a leader in other renewable energy initiatives. In the Compressed Biogas (CBG) sector, the state ranks first in the country with 38 operational plants and a production capacity of 284 tonnes per day. Under the PM-KUSUM C-1 scheme, the installation of 7,821 solar-powered systems is helping provide clean and affordable energy solutions to farmers.
Congratulating officials and stakeholders associated with the achievement, Sharma praised the efforts of UPNEDA, the Energy Department, power distribution corporations, field officers, employees, and industry partners. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to advancing green energy, strengthening energy security, and contributing to the vision of a developed and energy-independent India.
The minister expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh will continue setting new national benchmarks in renewable energy and play a pivotal role in India’s transition towards a sustainable energy future.
