Tree Plantation and Awareness Rally Mark World Environment Day at Rohilkhand University

Bareilly: The Department of Plant Science at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University observed World Environment Day with a tree plantation drive and an environmental awareness rally at the university’s Botanical Garden.

Faculty members and students actively participated in the plantation programme, reaffirming their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. As part of the celebrations, students organized a symbolic awareness rally, urging people to plant more trees and contribute to protecting existing green cover.

Addressing the participants, Head of the Department Prof. Alok Srivastava highlighted the vital role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring a healthy environment for future generations. Prof. Sanjay Garg emphasized that trees would play an increasingly critical role in sustaining human life in the years ahead and called upon students to become ambassadors of environmental protection.

Prof. J.N. Maurya appealed to every student to plant at least one sapling and take responsibility for its care. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vijay Kumar Sinhal stressed the importance of increasing green cover and warned about the long-term environmental consequences of large-scale deforestation. He encouraged participants to adopt sustainable practices and actively support conservation efforts.

Dr. Sinhal also shared that the sandalwood saplings planted in the university’s Sandalwood Grove during last year’s World Environment Day celebrations have now grown to a height of approximately five to seven feet. He expressed confidence that the Botanical Garden’s sandalwood plantation would develop into a thriving green space in the coming years.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by students and faculty members to promote environmental awareness, protect natural resources, and contribute towards a greener and more sustainable future.
