Sultanpur Police Crack Robbery Case Within 36 Hours, Four Arrested After Encounter

One Accused Injured During Police Encounter; Cash, Weapons, Motorcycle and Mobile Phones Recovered

Sultanpur: Sultanpur Police claimed a major breakthrough after successfully solving a robbery case within 36 hours and arresting four accused, including one who was injured during a police encounter near Dubepur Mor behind the airstrip in Kotwali Nagar area.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Kotwali Nagar police, SOG, and surveillance teams under the direction of Superintendent of Police Charu Nigam, with guidance from senior police officials and leadership of Inspector Sandeep Kumar Rai.

According to police, the arrests were made during an encounter at around 3:40 am on May 9 in connection with robbery case number 251/26 registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said one country-made .315 bore pistol, two live cartridges, one empty cartridge case, a 9mm empty cartridge, ₹24,500 in cash believed to be linked to the robbery, a Super Splendor motorcycle bearing registration number UP44AS2737, two touchscreen mobile phones including an iPhone, and an Airtel SIM card were recovered from the accused.

An additional case under the Arms Act and Section 109 BNS was also registered at Kotwali Nagar police station following the recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition.

According to officials, the robbery took place on May 7 in the Amhat area of Sultanpur district when a collection agent working for a finance company was allegedly robbed at gunpoint. The victim, identified as Ramkrishna Vishwakarma, a resident of Bhadohi, had reportedly collected loan repayments during the day and was returning with the cash when the incident occurred.

Police said that following an argument involving one of the accused, identified as Prince Rana, several accomplices were allegedly called to the spot. The attackers then stopped the collection agent’s vehicle and allegedly looted around ₹30,000 at gunpoint before fleeing.

Following the complaint, police formed five separate teams to investigate the case. Officials stated that the accused were identified through CCTV footage analysis and surveillance inputs, leading to the successful breakthrough.

The arrested accused have been identified as:

  • Prateek Bharti, resident of Dariyapur Azad Nagar Panchrasta, Kotwali Nagar
  • Mohammad Sufiyan, resident of Khairabad Mali Gali, Kotwali Nagar
  • Prince Rana, resident of Samanabhar, Dhammaur
  • Anubhav, resident of Senani Vihar Colony, Amhat

All four accused were sent to court after completion of legal formalities.

The police team involved in the operation included Inspector Sandeep Kumar Rai, Sub-Inspectors Pankaj Kumar and Vaibhav Tripathi, along with personnel from Kotwali Nagar police station and the SOG unit.
