Lucknow: Rajesh Verma, the newly appointed chairman of the Uttar Pradesh State Backward Classes Commission, chaired the monthly meeting of the commission at Indira Bhawan, Lucknow. Vice-chairman Sohan Lal Shrimali, Surya Prakash Pal and other members were also present in this meeting. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss the strategies of the commission for resolving the problems of the backward classes and their overall development.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman Rajesh Verma said that the commission will play an important role in the welfare of the backward classes and protection of their rights under the guidelines of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He said that the people of the backward classes have great expectations from the commission and we will try our best to live up to these expectations. Timely and quality disposal of complaints and applications will be our priority.
He said that for better implementation of the functions of the commission, district-wise responsibility will be assigned to the members, so that there is no difficulty in getting the certificate in any district. He also directed for quick disposal of all complaints so that people do not have to face unnecessary delay. The objective of the Commission is not only to resolve complaints but also to take concrete steps for the social and economic development of the backward classes.
The Commission will revise the list of backward classes from time to time so that new classes can be included and classes which are no longer backward can be removed from the list. In this direction, the Commission will continuously make recommendations and monitor their effective implementation.
The progress report of previous decisions was presented in the meeting and future decisions were discussed. Various subjects were discussed in the agenda of the meeting, out of which some important decisions were taken, including on the issue of registering Hindu tailor Saxena and Muslim tailor Idrisi on separate numbers, the Commission decided that adding sub-caste/surname creates confusion.
Therefore, the request of the reporter was unanimously rejected.
On the issue of registering Lonia caste as Kshatriya, the Commission did not find justification in registering Lonia caste as Kshatriya and unanimously rejected this proposal.
Considering the application of Shivvir Singh and others, the Commission decided to implement the previous recommendations as is and directed the Secretary Examination Regulatory Authority to implement the earlier recommendations for reconsideration.
The State Backward Classes Commission has been given important powers to protect the interests of the backward classes, protect their rights and for their welfare. The function of the Commission is to investigate the problems of the backward classes, inspect and evaluate welfare schemes for them and advise the State Government from time to time. The Commission will ensure that the backward classes are not deprived of their rights in any way.
In this meeting, the members expressed their opinion and were assured of high-level discussions on their suggestions. The Commission made it clear that every possible step will be taken to protect the rights of the backward classes and for their development.
