Lucknow | The Department of Neurosurgery at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), successfully conducted the first “SGPGI Skull Base Course – Cadaveric Workshop and Operative Proctorship”.
The two-day academic programme brought together practising neurosurgeons from across the country, including participants from leading national institutes. The workshop received widespread appreciation for its well-structured curriculum, high academic value and strong faculty-participant engagement. It was hailed as one of the most practical cadaveric workshops for mastering skull base anatomy and surgical approaches.
Participants praised the hands-on learning experience, highlighting the expertise of SGPGI neurosurgeons in managing skull base tumors, vascular pathologies and complex neurosurgical disorders. The positive feedback also reflected the department’s commitment to enhancing patient care through advanced training.
The programme was led by Dr. Awadhesh Kumar Jaiswal (Course Chairman & Head, Neurosurgery), with Dr. Kuntal Kanti Das (Course Coordinator) and Dr. Ashutosh Kumar (Co-Coordinator) ensuring a seamless learning experience. Prof. Navneet Kumar, Head of Anatomy at KGMU, played a key role in facilitating cadaveric resources and shared vital insights into skull base anatomy.

Renowned faculty members, including Dr. Jaiswal, Dr. Arun Kumar Srivastava, Dr. Anant Mehrotra, Dr. Kamlesh Singh Bhaisora and Dr. Ravishankar, conducted anatomical demonstrations and advanced exposure techniques.
The workshop’s unique format – featuring live operative observations, case-based discussions and cadaveric dissections – offered unmatched practical training. Participants especially appreciated the step-by-step guidance and personalised attention provided by the faculty.
This initiative reinforces SGPGI’s leadership in neurosurgical education and innovation, strengthening its status as a centre of excellence in advanced training and patient care. It marks a significant step in enhancing skull base surgery expertise in Uttar Pradesh and northern India, ensuring continued growth of world-class surgical standards in the region.
