Berlin: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh interacted with members of the Indian diaspora in Berlin, describing them as a vital link in deepening ties between India and Germany. The interaction took place on the first day of his three-day official visit to the European nation.
Addressing a gathering of nearly 300,000-strong Indian community members living in Germany, Singh said the diaspora serves as the “strongest bridge” between the two countries, contributing significantly across sectors such as business, technology, healthcare, academia, and the arts.
Highlighting India’s rising global stature, he credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that India’s voice is now heard with greater attention on international platforms. He encouraged Indians abroad to actively promote the country’s perspective globally and further strengthen economic and cultural ties with Germany.
The Defence Minister also noted that 2026 marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Germany, built on shared democratic values, mutual trust, and respect. He urged the diaspora to continue playing a constructive role in enhancing bilateral cooperation while remaining connected to their cultural heritage.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare of Indians abroad, Singh assured continued support and security for citizens residing overseas.
He also spoke about India’s rapid economic growth and technological advancements, pointing to progress in infrastructure, startups, space exploration, and digital innovation. Emphasising the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, he said the initiative aims to strengthen domestic capabilities, boost manufacturing, and reduce reliance on imports.
Calling the interaction a “special moment,” Singh expressed gratitude to the attendees for their participation and said the warm reception reflected the strong and evolving partnership between India and Germany
