Lucknow – Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati announced the expulsion of Ashok Siddharth, the father-in-law of her nephew Akash Anand, from the party on Wednesday. Siddharth, a former Rajya Sabha MP, was removed over allegations of factionalism and anti-party activities.
Mayawati’s political heir, 30-year-old Akash Anand, serves as the BSP’s national coordinator. Although Mayawati had dismissed him last year, she later reinstated him and confirmed him as her successor.
Meerut District In-Charge Also Expelled
Alongside Siddharth, Nitin Singh, the BSP’s district in-charge for Meerut, was also removed. Singh had been responsible for party operations in the southern states.
In a statement on social media platform X, Mayawati confirmed, “Dr. Ashok Siddharth, former MP, and Reshri Nitin Singh, District Meerut, have been expelled in the interest of the BSP for engaging in anti-party activities.”
BSP’s Declining Influence
The decision follows the BSP’s poor performance in the Delhi Assembly elections, where its candidates failed to retain deposits in all contested seats. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured 22 seats, and the BJP won 48 out of 70 seats, while the Congress failed to open its account.
This move signals Mayawati’s attempt to consolidate party leadership amid declining electoral success.
