Singapore: Seven-time Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton said that he and the Mercedes team were on good terms a few days after he criticized their tactics during the Singapore Grand Prix, which he finished sixth in this past weekend.
Despite qualifying in third place, 39-year-old Hamilton was not happy with his team’s decision to put him on soft tires when he preferred medium ones.
“I battled as hard as I could to fight to go on the medium tire, but the team continued to suggest that I started on the soft … everyone was on medium,” Hamilton said at a subsequent event.
James Allison, the team’s technical director, admitted to the error and said it destroyed Hamilton’s race. Hamilton, who is now sixth in the championship with 174 points—Max Verstappen of Red Bull is leading with 331—was hoping to finish first.
Hamilton, however, claimed on social media on Saturday that the soft tire strategy was a daring and dangerous one that did not pay off despite having the potential to give him a lead at the beginning of the race.
“I am aware that there has been a lot of discussion about the last one and our unsuccessful approach in Singapore. It’s normal for me to feel irritated when something occurs, and it’s simple for me to express that aggravation,” the British writer said on the Instagram app.
“Don’t get me wrong, the team is great. We don’t mind having difficult talks or facing difficult situations, which is how we have accomplished so much as a team. We’ll stick with one another through thick and thin.” The next competition in Austin, Texas, is scheduled for next month, according to Hamilton.
