Lucknow: In a relief to residents who had given up hope of recovering their lost mobile phones, the Lucknow Police have traced and recovered 100 devices worth around Rs 18 lakh and returned them to their rightful owners.
The recovery was carried out by the Cyber Cell of the Lucknow Police’s South Zone with the help of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The latest operation involved tracing mobile phones that had gone missing from different parts of the city and were later found being used in other districts and states.

With this recovery, Lucknow Police have recovered and returned 347 lost mobile phones worth approximately Rs 61 lakh during 2026 so far.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Mohammad Mushtaq shared details of the operation at a press conference held in the presence of Additional DCP (South) Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar.
According to police officials, complaints regarding missing mobile phones registered at cyber help desks across police stations in the South Zone were reviewed. Investigators then used the CEIR portal to initiate the process of tracing the devices.
During the investigation, several of the missing phones were found to have become active in other districts and states. Cyber teams used technical information generated through the devices to identify their locations and subsequently coordinated with police authorities in the concerned areas for their recovery.

After the phones were recovered, police verified the identities of the complainants and matched documents and other relevant details with the devices.
Following the verification process, all 100 recovered mobile phones were handed back to their legitimate owners.
Police said the use of the CEIR system has strengthened efforts to track missing and stolen mobile phones, particularly when devices are being used outside the jurisdiction where the original complaint was registered.
The latest operation is part of the Lucknow Police’s continuing efforts to use technology and inter-state coordination to recover lost property and provide relief to complainants.
