Kamala Harris campaign nears end as D day nears

Washington: Vice President Kamala Harris has selected the Ellipse in Washington DC as the site for her campaign’s concluding statement, coinciding with former President Donald Trump’s return to New York, his erstwhile hometown, for his ultimate appeal.

Harris’s selection of the Ellipse, situated on the grounds of the US Capitol and adjacent to the US Congress, aims to evoke a poignant reminder for American voters of the rally that Trump addressed on January 6, 2021.

Following the rally, his supporters proceeded to the US Capitol in an effort to obstruct a joint session of the two chambers from certifying Joe Biden as the victor of the 2020 election and the forthcoming president.

“On Tuesday, October 29, with merely one week remaining until election day, Vice President Kamala Harris is set to present a significant closing argument address in Washington on the Ellipse,” the campaign stated in a media coverage guidance issued.

Harris intends to utilize the venue to underscore a pivotal aspect of her campaign, asserting that the former president poses a significant danger to democracy and the constitution. During a recent town hall organized by CNN, she referred to him as a “fascist.”

The former president has expressed indignation at being labeled a threat to democracy, attributing these accusations as the catalyst for the two assassination attempts against him.

“It has been asserted that I pose a danger to democratic principles,” he remarked. “It is often asserted that adhering to the conventional narrative can incite individuals with nefarious intentions.” That is quite an unfortunate circumstance… Perhaps that bullet can be attributed to their discourse.

Trump’s concluding remarks on Sunday are expected to emphasize the central themes of his campaign — the economy and immigration. The selection of venue is noteworthy — Madison Square Garden, a stadium renowned for hosting significant sporting events, concerts, and, in 2014, a rally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“This significant occasion, situated in the core of President Trump’s native city, will serve as a demonstration of the historic political movement that President Trump has cultivated in the concluding days of the campaign,” the Trump campaign articulated in a statement.

Trump was born and raised in New York City, where he flourished until relocating to Washington DC following his election in 2016. Subsequent to his departure from the White House in January 2021, he has resided at his Mar-a-Lago club resort located in Palm Beach, Florida.
