First time in India, an election for post of Speaker

NDA’s Om Birla will face K. Suresh of ‘INDIA’ alliance

New Delhi: After not being able to reach a consensus on the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, the opposition has announced its candidate. K. Suresh will be the opposition’s candidate for the post of Speaker. On the other hand, Om Birla has filed nomination for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker on behalf of NDA.

The election of the Lok Sabha Speaker is to be held on Wednesday. This will be the first time in the country when there will be an election for the Speaker post. Till now the Speaker was elected unanimously by the ruling party and the opposition. But this time this tradition seems to be breaking.

According to Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal, since the NDA is not ready to give the post of Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha to India Block, we have decided to field our candidate for the post of Speaker.
