Elon Musk Alleges Massive Cyber Attack on X, Suspects Ukraine’s Involvement

Washington: Social media platform X faced multiple server outages, prompting concerns from its owner, Elon Musk. The billionaire entrepreneur and DOGE advocate claimed that the platform was experiencing large-scale cyber attacks, potentially originating from Ukraine.

Cyber Attack Traced to Ukraine Region: Musk

In an interview with Fox News, Musk stated, “We are not entirely sure what happened, but cyber attackers with IP addresses originating from the Ukraine region managed to take X down. It was a large-scale attack.”

Meanwhile, a Telegram channel reported that a pro-Palestinian hacker group called Dark Storm Team had claimed responsibility for a DDoS (Distributed Denial-of-Service) attack on X. The group is known for targeting countries and organizations that support Israel’s military actions in Gaza.

Over 41% Users Faced Issues Accessing X

According to Downdetector, more than 4,000 complaints were reported from India, 18,000 from the U.S., and over 10,000 from the U.K. on Monday. The website data indicated:

  • 41% of users faced issues with the app
  • 51% encountered difficulties accessing X via the web
  • 8% reported server connection problems

With approximately 611 million users worldwide, including 95 million in the U.S. and 27 million in India, X sees nearly 500 million posts daily, according to statistics from Statista.

Musk Warns Ukraine

Recently, Elon Musk criticized Ukraine’s war efforts against Russia, stating that “without Starlink satellite services, Ukraine could face significant challenges.”

His remarks come shortly after a tense meeting between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Reports suggest that Trump warned Zelenskyy that his actions were pushing the world toward a “Third World War” and urged him to consider a ceasefire. However, Zelenskyy maintained that Ukraine would not halt its resistance until Russia returned all occupied territories.
