Gonda: As part of the Prime Minister’s nationwide call for a drug-free India, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Degree College held a “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” (Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India) programme at its Lalita Shastri Auditorium, on the directions of officiating Principal Prof. Jitendra Singh.
Speaking as the chief guest, Prof. Arvind Kumar Sharma, Head of the Department of Zoology, urged students not to look at people struggling with addiction with contempt but with compassion — and to help them break free of it, while playing their own part in the nation’s development.
Outlining the purpose of the programme, its coordinator, Dr. Rekha Sharma, said that a person caught in addiction doesn’t just ruin their own life — they shatter their parents’ hopes, cloud their children’s future, and push their family and community toward collapse. Freeing the country of drug abuse, she said, requires everyone to pitch in.
The event was compered by NCC in-charge Dr. Amit Shukla, while the vote of thanks was delivered by NSS Programme Officer Dr. Chaman Kaur.
A speech and poster competition held on the theme saw enthusiastic participation from students. In the speech competition, Manasi Singh, Sandeep Tiwari and Mohammad Zaid took the first, second and third positions respectively, while in the poster competition, the top three spots went to Mehvish Miraj, Raj and Kamalvasani Tiwari. The competitions were judged by Dr. Chaman Kaur, Dr. Santosh Srivastava and Dr. Manoj Mishra.
The programme also drew praise for the contribution of NSS Programme Officers Dr. Pawan Singh, Dr. Parvez Alam, Dr. Dilip Shukla, Dr. Dalip Singh, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Priyanka Srivastava and Dr. Amit Dubey.
