GONDA: Police personnel and their families in Gonda spent Sunday morning getting their blood pressure checked, their eyes tested, and some much-needed advice on managing the toll that long duty hours take on the body.
The occasion was the “Vama Wellness Camp,” organised on August 2 at the Reserve Police Lines by Vama Sarathi, the Uttar Pradesh Police Family Welfare Association, under the guidance of its president, Dr. Tanvi Jaiswal. Running from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., the camp brought together Apollomedics Hospital, Tata 1mg, the state AYUSH department, and local medical institutions to offer check-ups, consultations, and diagnostic tests at one location and at discounted rates.
The idea, organisers said, was simple: give police personnel — who often have little time to look after their own health amid demanding schedules — an easy, affordable way to get screened without having to visit multiple clinics.
A team led by Medical Officer Dr. Jitendra Kumar Yadav, along with Dr. Tanu Srivastava and pharmacist Dr. Nanku Singh, carried out general health examinations through the day. A dietitian was on hand with advice on balanced eating and weight management — including tips for staying healthy on duty — while a physiotherapist addressed the back, neck, and muscle problems that come with long hours on the job. An optometrist ran eye tests, and nursing staff kept the various stations running smoothly.
Beyond the basic blood pressure and blood sugar checks, participants could also get pathology tests done — sugar profile, cholesterol, creatinine, haemoglobin, and thyroid — at fixed, subsidised rates.
Turnout was strong, with a large number of officers, staff, and family members coming through over the course of the morning. Several participants called the initiative genuinely useful, saying it made preventive care far more accessible than it usually is.
Police officials said the camp reflects an ongoing effort to keep health and wellness on the radar for personnel and their families, and that similar camps and awareness drives will continue to be held in the future. The Reserve Inspector (Pratisar Nirikshak) and other departmental officers and staff were also present at the event.
