Gonda: District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan handed over financial assistance of ₹10 lakh to a young beneficiary who lost both parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, under the PM CARES for Children Scheme.
The District Magistrate said the scheme, announced by the Prime Minister and implemented by the Department of Women Welfare, provides long-term financial support to children orphaned by COVID-19. As part of the initiative, assistance is deposited as a fixed deposit in the beneficiary’s bank account and released upon attaining the prescribed age.
This year, a beneficiary from the Karnailganj development block, who has completed 23 years of age, received a cheque of ₹10 lakh under the scheme.
Expressing gratitude after receiving the cheque, the beneficiary thanked the Prime Minister and the district administration for the support. He said the scheme had provided a strong foundation through educational, healthcare and financial assistance, enabling him to move towards self-reliance and a secure future. He also pledged to make responsible use of the financial assistance and contribute positively to society as a responsible citizen.
On the occasion, the District Magistrate also distributed approval letters to four children under the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Bal Seva Yojana (General), another welfare initiative aimed at supporting children in vulnerable circumstances.
The programme was attended by District Probation Officer Gaurav Mishra, Protection Officer Chandra Mohan Verma, Protection Officer Neha Srivastava, Data Analyst Shiv Govind Verma, and other officials from the Women Welfare Department.
