Lucknow: The debris lying along footpaths and roadsides in the city will now be put to productive use. This initiative has been launched by the Municipal Corporation to properly process construction and demolition (C&D) waste. Under the guidance of Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, the municipal corporation has commenced the operation of a C&D waste treatment plant. Recently the Mayor inspected the plant and provided necessary directives to officials. Municipal Commissioner Indrajeet Singh and Additional Municipal Commissioner Dr. Arvind Kumar Rao were also present at the inspection. This plant will help eliminate pollution caused by construction waste and improve the city’s air quality.
300 TPD Capacity Plant Operational
The Mayor shared details about the plant, stating that it has a processing capacity of 300 TPD (Tons Per Day). The plant has been set up at an estimated cost of approximately ₹12 crore, with ₹5 crore contributed by the municipal corporation and the remaining amount funded by the implementing company. The primary objective of this plant is to recycle city waste into useful products, addressing debris management issues and supporting road and infrastructure development.
Road Construction Using Recycled Waste
The municipal corporation will now use C&D waste to build roads in the city. The Mayor further stated that reinforced cement concrete (RCC) roads will be constructed using the processed debris from the plant. Additionally, tiles made from C&D waste will be utilized in small and large streets to improve road infrastructure. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the city’s development and enhance road conditions in various areas.
Products Made from C&D Waste
The C&D waste plant produces various useful products, including tiles, flower pots, blocks, and boundary walls. These products will be used for public spaces, parks, and other construction projects in the city. The municipal corporation processes approximately 100 quintals of debris daily to manufacture these useful items, such as brick tiles and other essential products.
Eight Collection Centers Set Up in the City
To streamline the collection process, the municipal corporation has established eight collection centers across different zones. Debris collected from various parts of the city is first brought to these centers before being transported to the C&D waste plant in Mohanlalganj. Residents can request debris collection services by calling 7459956211 or the toll-free number 1533. Additionally, all debris at collection centers is properly covered to prevent environmental damage.
This innovative approach aims to make Lucknow a cleaner and more sustainable city by efficiently managing construction waste and repurposing it for infrastructural development.
