Accused Taken Into Custody Within a Day of FIR Registration; Investigation Underway
Lucknow: The Chinhat Police in Lucknow have arrested a 19-year-old man accused of sexually exploiting a woman on the false promise of marriage and allegedly threatening her when she protested.
The accused, identified as Rishi Verma, son of Lovlesh Kumar and a resident of Bibipur village under Jaidpur Police Station in Barabanki district, was arrested on July 5, 2026, by a Chinhat Police team. Legal proceedings against him are currently underway.
Complaint Filed by Survivor
According to police officials, the case was registered after the complainant approached Chinhat Police Station on July 4, 2026, and submitted a written complaint alleging that the accused had established a physical relationship with her by falsely assuring her of marriage.
The complainant further alleged that when she objected and resisted, the accused threatened her with serious consequences, including threats to her life.
Based on the complaint, Chinhat Police registered Case No. 360/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to allegations of sexual exploitation on the pretext of marriage and criminal intimidation.
Swift Police Action
Considering the seriousness of the allegations, the Station House Officer of Chinhat Police Station constituted a dedicated team to locate and arrest the accused at the earliest.
The investigation was assigned to Sub-Inspector Vivek Mishra, who initiated legal proceedings and coordinated efforts to trace the accused.

Acting on available information, the police team apprehended Rishi Verma from the Chinhat Police Station office premises on July 5, 2026.
Investigation Continues
Police officials stated that the accused has been taken into custody and further legal action is being carried out in accordance with the law.
Authorities also confirmed that inquiries are being conducted with other police stations and units to verify whether the accused has any previous criminal record.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and all relevant evidence is being examined as part of the case proceedings.
As the matter is under investigation, the allegations against the accused have been recorded in the FIR and are yet to be adjudicated by a court of law.
