Akhilesh Yadav Defends Party’s Stance
On Wednesday, Akhilesh Yadav took to social media platform X to issue a statement: “The Samajwadi Party believes in social justice and the creation of an egalitarian society. We want to ensure respect for even the weakest individuals. Our intention is never to disrespect any historical figure. The SP does not question the bravery and patriotism of Mewar’s ruler, Rana Sanga.”
Criticism of BJP’s Use of History
Targeting the BJP, Yadav wrote, “The BJP has always used certain aspects of history for political gains and to divide the nation on religious and caste lines. Our MP was merely pointing out the one-sided portrayal and interpretation of historical events.”
He further stated, “Governance decisions were made according to the circumstances of their time. Today’s democratic system cannot function based on historical events. Instead of creating divisions, the BJP government should focus on issues like employment, healthcare, and public safety.”

The controversy erupted after SP MP Ramji Lal Suman, speaking in Parliament, questioned, “Who invited Babur to India? Was it not Rana Sanga who called him to defeat Ibrahim Lodi?” His remarks have sparked a heated political debate, prompting clarifications from the SP leadership.
