AIIMS Raebareli Pledges to Make Campus a Single-Use Plastic-Free Zone on World Environment Day

Raebareli: AIIMS Raebareli marked World Environment Day with a series of awareness and plantation activities, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible healthcare practices. The institution also pledged to transform its campus into a Single-Use Plastic-Free Zone.

The day’s events commenced with a visit by Executive Director Dr. Amita Jain to the Centre for Rural Health (CRH), Salon. Organized by the Department of Community Medicine, the programme was inaugurated with a tree plantation drive led by Dr. Jain. Addressing participants, she urged everyone to actively contribute to environmental conservation and sustainable living.

During her visit, Dr. Jain conducted an on-site inspection of the Centre’s healthcare facilities, infrastructure, services, and operational systems. Employees, healthcare workers, and local residents present at the event took a pledge to protect the environment and eliminate the use of single-use plastics. Participants also committed themselves to promoting a cleaner and greener environment, conserving natural resources, and reducing plastic pollution.

The programme was attended by CHC In-charge Dr. Amit, Health Education Officer Shivkaran, and other healthcare personnel.

At the main AIIMS Raebareli campus, a special environmental awareness programme highlighted the institution’s commitment to becoming a single-use plastic-free zone. In her address, Dr. Jain emphasized the importance of simple yet impactful actions such as switching off lights, fans, and electrical appliances when not in use. She also stressed the need for efficient segregation, recycling, and disposal of biomedical and environmentally hazardous waste.

Later in the evening, senior officials, including the Executive Director, Dean (Academics), Deputy Director (Administration), Financial Advisor, and Additional Medical Superintendent, participated in a plantation drive at the Rose Garden near the institute’s main gate.

As part of the campaign, jute bags were distributed to sanitation and outsourced staff, residents, patients, and attendants to encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives to plastic. The Department of Community Medicine also organized a poster-making competition, in which MBBS students participated enthusiastically, showcasing creative ideas on environmental protection and sustainability.

The World Environment Day celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Deputy Director (Administration), reinforcing AIIMS Raebareli’s commitment to environmental stewardship, waste reduction, and sustainable healthcare practices.
