Adani Group to Build South Asia’s Largest Private Missile Ecosystem in Shivpuri, Says Jeet Adani

Shivpuri: Marking a major milestone in India’s defence manufacturing journey, Jeet Adani, Director of the Adani Group, announced the foundation of what he described as South Asia’s largest private-sector missile ecosystem in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. Addressing a gathering that included Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar, senior government officials, industry leaders, and stakeholders, Adani highlighted the strategic significance of the project for India’s self-reliance in defence production.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, Jeet Adani said the upcoming facility would be the first private-sector establishment in the region capable of carrying out the entire missile manufacturing process under one roof—from raw materials to mission-ready missile systems. He described the project as a transformative step toward strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers.

Adani praised Madhya Pradesh’s rapid economic growth, attributing the state’s development momentum to the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, continued support from Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the state government’s sustained focus on infrastructure, industrial expansion, and employment generation.

Highlighting the group’s broader investment commitments in the state, Adani recalled that during the Global Investors Summit held in Bhopal last year, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani had announced investments worth ₹1.10 lakh crore across sectors including pumped hydro storage, cement, mining, smart metering, and thermal energy. These investments, he said, are expected to generate approximately 1.2 lakh employment opportunities by 2030.

He noted that the group has already invested more than ₹4,000 crore in the Ametha and Kymore industrial facilities in Katni district. In the power sector, Adani Power currently supplies 1,200 MW of electricity to the state while work is underway to add another 5,600 MW of generation capacity. The company has also initiated wind energy projects in Lahori, Dhar, Ratlam, and Ujjain, and is preparing to begin work on a new cement plant in Ujjain.

Referring to the recently launched cement unit in Guna, Adani said the ₹1,060 crore project represents the largest industrial investment in the district’s history. He emphasized that the group’s investments are not merely about establishing factories and industrial infrastructure but about investing in the people and future of Madhya Pradesh.

Connecting the initiative to the national vision of self-reliance, Adani said the group’s projects align closely with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the broader objectives of the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

In the defence and aerospace sector, he said the group is actively contributing to indigenization efforts by working closely with the Defence Research and Development Organisation and India’s armed forces to reduce reliance on imported defence systems and technologies.

Adani highlighted the group’s existing defence manufacturing operations in Gwalior, which have established the city as a key defence production hub in Madhya Pradesh. The facility currently manufactures a range of small arms, including light machine guns, assault rifles, and carbines. He noted that under the light machine gun program alone, more than 2,000 units have already been delivered to the armed forces, reportedly 11 months ahead of schedule.

Turning to the Shivpuri project, Adani said the new facility would serve as the next major chapter in the group’s defence manufacturing expansion. The integrated missile ecosystem will focus on producing medium- and long-range missile systems and will help establish domestic capabilities in strategic defence technologies.

He further revealed that the project’s scope extends beyond final assembly. The facility will also manufacture composite propellants as well as TNT and other explosive-grade materials, creating a comprehensive domestic supply chain for missile production.

According to Adani, the company plans to invest ₹2,500 crore over the next three years to develop the state-of-the-art complex. Once operational, the project is expected to create around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities and support the participation of more than 50 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the specialized defence supply chain.

He concluded by stating that Gwalior and Shivpuri would together emerge as twin centres of defence innovation in Madhya Pradesh, strengthening India’s capability to design, manufacture, and deploy advanced defence systems domestically. The initiative, he said, will ensure that critical technologies protecting the nation’s skies are developed and produced on Indian soil by Indian talent.

The announcement marks a significant development in India’s defence manufacturing landscape and reinforces Madhya Pradesh’s growing role as a strategic destination for high-technology industrial and defence investments.
