Lucknow: La Martinière Girls’ College hosted an engaging performance and acting workshop on October 7, led by RJ Tashi of Radio Mirchi for students of Classes 10 and 12. The session offered a lively blend of storytelling, voice modulation, sound effects and practical acting exercises.
Based in Lucknow, RJ Tashi is an acoustic musician, storyteller, independent singer-songwriter and guitarist. Known for blending classical Urdu poetry with contemporary compositions, he has also been associated with community initiatives such as ‘Humkalaam’.

Tashi introduced students to the concept of the ‘Theatre of the Mind’, exploring how voice and sound can stimulate imagination and create vivid experiences. He encouraged students to reflect on the question, “What is being an adult if not playing a role?” highlighting how performance and role-playing are integral to everyday life.
He also demonstrated how sound effects are created in a studio and explained the impact of voice modulation on storytelling and acting. Sharing practical acting techniques, he encouraged students to experiment with expression and spontaneity.

The workshop reached its high point when students formed groups of five and performed 45-second scenes on stage, showcasing their creativity, confidence and improvisational skills.
The session concluded with a reflection on life as a grand play, emphasising how the roles people choose to perform influence their perceptions and understanding of reality.
